Empty Green US Mint Monster Box
Used in Fully Functional Condition
$3.00
The United States Mint sold 500 one-ounce Silver Eagle bullion coins in these durable green plastic shipping "monster" boxes. These are the empty green boxes that were salvaged from a local private mint and bullion dealer that went out of business several years ago. I have a whole lot of these boxes, but I don't have any of the silver. See photos for details.
The lid fits easily over the base, so they are not made to be airtight. The base also fits neatly into the raised ridges around the lids of a similar box under it, so a stack of these will stay rather rigid and orderly (see photos). Use these boxes to hold and sort hand tools, hardware, small parts, or even paperwork. Keep them in your closet, on your workbench, or garage shelves.
Each box base is 14-3/8 x 8-1/8 x 4-1/4 inches. The walls are all about 1/8-inch thick. The lid is 14-3/4 x 8-1/2 x 2-3/8 inches. The assembled box is 4-1/2 inches tall. All four sides have a wide central groove that was originally use for the bands that sealed the boxes.
Bullion dealers such as APMEX sell these empty boxes for about $15 to $25 to collectors. My prices are as follows:
1 - 10 boxes, $3.00 each, local pickup.
11-25 boxes, $2.00 each, local pickup.
26-50 boxes, $1.75 each, local pickup.
Larger quantity discounts available.
Shipping arrangements can be arranged for an additional fee, FOB Carson City, Nevada.
Most, if not all, of these green monster boxes were used for storage of tools and parts at the now-defunct private mint. Many have faded markings that you can probably clean off (as seen in some of the images). They have been stored outside for a few years and some have faded, but all are intact and durable for storage. They are sold for their function, not for their appearance. All are fully functional.
Note also that most of these green monster boxes do not have the plastic tubes or green spacers that held and protected the silver eagle coins when originally shipped. I do have a fair number of those green spacers and perhaps a handful of the tubes. These are available at an additional cost, negotiated separately.
