Fiberglass Work Trays

I'm told that the United States Mint once used these fiberglass trays to carry coin blanks (planchets) and finished coins between stages of production. A large number of these were later acquired and used by a local private mint for the same purposes. These were salvaged when that local facility closed a few years ago and are now available in small and large quantities. I have a whole lot of them - hundreds.

The outside dimensions of the trays are 13-1/4 x 10-5/16 x 1-3/4 inches. The inside dimensions are 12 x 9 x 1-1/4 inches. The bottom of each tray is beveled so it nests into the similarly beveled top edge of another tray (see photos). The nesting feature means a stack of these trays is quite stable and will not tip over. There is a ~1/4-inch hole in the middle of the short sides (visible in the photos).

These have been used at mints for years and labeled with marker on some edges (see photos), then stored outdoors for a few more. They clean up well, and all have many more years of good use ahead for them. They are sold for their function, not for their appearance, but they still look pretty good. All are fully functional, and they might tolerate some cleaning once you receive them.

Great for sorting parts and pieces for auto repair, craft projects, LEGO construction, even file sorting, since regular 8.5 x 11-inch papers easily fit in these trays. You can layer the bottom with a 12 x 9-inch piece of shelf liner or craft felt to cushion whatever you put in them.
